BAADE- UNIT 2- MUSWELL HILL

Evaluative report

Muswell hill, as a whole, is an interesting and a diverse town within London. Setting up a scavenger hunt around this area proved achievable due to the diverse surroundings it holds, and for this reason, as well proved challenging. One of the main factors influencing our game was the time scale the game was to be played. Since the game was to be played during the later part of the day, this mean we had to cut certain aspects of the game in order to fit around the lighter part of the day as the game consisted of finding clues and hidden objects.

The structure of the game seemed to be our biggest asset to make this game enjoyable. Unlike a simple hand out sheet with a list of clues given at the beginning of the game, our game consisted of finding the next clue with the instruction from the previous, engaging and encouraging the players to pursue the next etc. Other factors we included within the game, whether the team realised or not, were certain agendas we as a group thought were most important in society. This included, sustainability and environmental issues, by instructing to make a simple shelter out of wood found in the forest, not only would they have learnt about the necessity to sustain the environment it would have helped the group bond, work as a team and made them more spatially aware of their surroundings. Political issues, by engaging with the community, as many clues especially in the high street, were given once engaged and communicated with the people and shop owners that make Muswell hill.

Reflecting on my contribution in the group i found that there was a certain dominance in the group myself being one of them. In terms of generating ideas and developing the project I think the group acted and bonded well and we all thoroughly investigated different areas assigned to. However when it came to participating installing the game and general first hand research to be done in Muswell Hill, I found there was a lack of commitment which if it had not been due to frequent meeting may have jeopardise the success of the game.

The space i researched was Muswell Hill woods, in which i found out many facts and tried to base these facts around the game. This part of the game was well constructed and informative however due to the nature of this game, finding clues hidden within the forest, as obvious as we made clues, there was always the uncertainty that someone would take clues out of curiosity, in which it did happen which left the players slightly confused until they phoned us up.

If i was do redo this project i would defiantly rethink the idea of leaving a clue in an obvious public space, i would have probably leave it in a more challenging place however giving the circumstances and time of day it was necessary to leave it in the place we did. I would also emphasise the need to work as a team as I think the general work ethos, within the group, could be improved.
